What I’m Reading – 12/16/14

Below are some links to a few things I’ve been reading, listening to, or watching recently (along with a few comments).

• Servant on the Edge of History: Risking All for the Gospel in War-Ravaged Vietnam, by Sam James – This incredibly powerful memoir from 43-year missionary veteran Sam James will challenge and encourage you in your faith. In telling his story of serving Jesus in Vietnam, James will cause you to worship the Lord and ask what he is calling you to do to reach the nations.
• Ronnie Floyd, current president of the Southern Baptist Convention, has issued a 16-page e-booklet entitled Pleading with Southern Baptists. In this booklet Dr. Floyd looks at the history of revival and notes that no revival has ever occurred without a desperate and devoted commitment to prayer, and so he calls for Southern Baptists to collectively give ourselves to the work of prayer and petition for God to move. Read and be challenged.
• “The Warrior Wives of Evangelical Christianity” – This article provides an interesting look from outside the evangelical world at various movements associated with the sexual counter-culture among evangelicals, particularly focusing on evangelical women.
• “Stop Demonizing Teen Sexting. In Most Cases, It’s Completely Harmless.” – I obviously don’t agree with the overall argument or worldview of this article from a few weeks ago, but if you have teenagers, work with teenagers, or will one day be around teenagers, you need to know first, that this is happening, and second, that some are arguing that it’s not a big deal!
