What I’m Reading – 1/26/16
Below are some of the articles and books I’ve read recently that you may enjoy checking out.
- “If the Kingdom Is Going to Arrive in 2016 We Better Get Busy” (Between the Times) — SEBTS Professor Ken Keathley encourages to remain faithful to the Great Commission regardless of our convictions about the end times. He summarizes: “Postmillennialism predicts that the arrow will go up; Premillennialism predicts that it will go down; while Amillennialism says that it will stay pretty much the same. Whichever direction humanity goes (I’m in the Premillennial camp), let’s stay on mission.”
- “10 Steps to Win Over Pornography” (Chuck Lawless) — By any account, pornography is a massive problem in our culture, and that includes those who claim the name of Christ. As Christians, we are called to fight this sin by the power of the gospel. SEBTS Professor and Dean of Graduate Studies Chuck Lawless provides some wise counsel on how to go about that fight.
- “2015 was ‘worst year’ for Christian persecution, says Open Doors” (RNS) — Christians have the privilege and responsibility to remember and support those who are being persecuted for their faithfulness to Christ. Articles like this remind us that this task is not shrinking, but growing.
- “Christian Women Funding $100M to Abortion Industry, Care Net President Warns Church” (CP) — At the recent Evangelicals for Life Conference in Washington D.C., the CEO for one of the largest crisis pregnancy center organizations revealed that 4 out of 10 women who receive an abortion attend church.
- “‘Believe whatever you want,’ Rubio tells atheist” (RNS) — The presidential candidate calmly and resolutely defended religious liberty, even for atheists, and then shared his own faith at a town hall event last week.
- Romans 7: Does it or does it not describe your Christian experience? (TGC) — John Piper and Tom Schreiner provide two different perspectives on how to interpret this difficult but rich passage. Both are worth reading!
